Happy 5th Birthday Owen!!

Today is our son's birthday and we decided to buy him his own Nintendo DSi. I really struggled with the decision of whether to spend this kind of money on a child. Honestly, it goes against the grain of what I feel comfortable with. My husband loves to buy the kids whatever they want for special occasions, which I do too, but I have a hard time stomaching spending that much on a 5 year old. I'm not sure that he will take proper care of it so that is mostly where my issue lies. David is not going to be the one who will always have to be like "Owen put your DS away, Owen don't put it there it will get ruined, Owen move your DS it's going to fall" That will be my job. Anyway, watching him open the present was quite a joy. Don't get to see smiles that big very often. I wanted to share some pictures right away.

So, the jury is out on whether this was a good present for a 5 year old or not. This is yet to be determined.

I have the same problem! RJ turned 9 this summer and wanted a digital camera. We got him an inexpensive one and a camera bag so he wouldn't lose it or break it. Within a week he'd set it on the top of the steps and it fell all the way down, smashing the glass on the screen. I was so upset that he cared so little about the things we get him (this wasn't the first broken expensive toy and probably won't be the last). It's really difficult to want to spend a lot of money when you have serious doubts about how they'll take care of things. But I'm sure your little boy will love his gift and take good care of it. :)

Evan has one and we gave it to hime when he was 6! He loves it and it does help when you are in the car doing errands...no complaining...just playing!!! We try to impress upon him to put it away and take care of it...but Gavin got it the other day and I thought he had broken it...but Hubby got it fixed....Hope he does well with it!!

the part that drives me crazy is how easy it is for them to misplace those tiny game cartridges!! (which are equally expensive!)

I really like your pictures. Do you do some sort of action on them?

Beautiful pictures. I was curious about them as well.
